La conquête du monde par l’ image

From 16 May 2008 until 31 May 2008, an exhibition about May ’68 takes place in Brussels.

The exhibition consists of two parts that will be sheltered in one location.

1: The exhibition:

A number of young artists will be invited to realize an ‘ action ‘ (in the city) and to record it. The action finds its origins in an investigation on May ’68. The exhibition will consist of the whole of the recorded actions.

Posters in the city will invite anyone who’s willing to realize and record an action, to participate. Those works will also be shown in the exhibition.

Actions can still take place during the project. The exhibition should be dynamic and will expand continuously.

2: Lectures & FILM:

A number of specialized speakers will shine their light on some specific aspects of May 68 and on their meaning throughout history until today.

The emphasis lies especially on alternative and/or not so well known subjects, such as Marcel Mariën, Ernest Mandel, the occupation of the Museum of Fine Arts, etc.

Simultaneously some aspects will be shown in a broader light, such as the history of actions/performances in contemporary art.

The location will be exhibition space and conference room at the same time. All activities (exhibition, lectures, film screenings, documentation) will be assembled here. One big chaotic brew of art and information.

At the end of the exhibition all the information and documentation about the actions will be collected into a catalogue, which will be distributed for free and for all to take and copy.
